Uplift (first step to “welcome to cork”)
Uplift Club is the first step in a larger initiative called Welcome to Cork. While Welcome to Cork aims to become a long-term cultural and community platform to support newcomers to the city, Uplift Club focuses on what matters most in the beginning: finding connection, building trust, and spending quality time together. This site introduces the club and invites people to join informal local meetups, short trips, and weekend retreats designed to bring people together in meaningful ways.
My site will have the following functionality:
– Event calendar for upcoming meetups and trips
– Contact form for inquiries and joining
– Blog with stories and reflections from events
– Team introduction section
– Social media integration
– (Future) sign-up forms and payment functionality
Three competitor/inspiration/reference sites are:
– meetup.com
– purecork.ie
– soultribe.co
Of these, I like:
– Meetup.com because it clearly categorises events and encourages interaction
– PureCork.ie because it presents the city’s energy in a clean, accessible way
– SoulTribe.co because it creates a calm and inviting sense of community
The style of my site will be:
Warm, welcoming, and clear
Other sites that I perceive to be warm, welcoming, and clear are:
– soultribe.co
– calm.com
– futurelearn.com
Calm.com feels welcoming thanks to its soft colours, minimal distractions, and peaceful flow.
SoulTribe.co feels clear because everything is visually well organised and easy to explore.
This will be applied in my site by:
– Using illustrated visuals with consistent tone and soft colour palettes
– Breaking up content with clear headers, space to breathe, and easy navigation
My new site will be a brochure-style site about a community initiative in Cork, Ireland that connects people through local meetups, wellness-oriented trips, and shared weekend experiences.
It will focus on the following target audiences:
- Newcomers to Cork (immigrants, students, remote workers)
- People living alone who want meaningful connection
- Local residents interested in short, well-being getaways
- Volunteers or coaches who want to join or contribute to the project
The objectives of my site are:
– Introduce the Uplift Club and how to join
– Share upcoming activities and photos from past events
– Build a mailing list and grow community presence on social media
I will measure the success of my new site using the following KPIs:
– Website visits per month
– Click-through rate to event and contact pages
– Number of people reaching out or signing up
– Growth in Instagram / Facebook engagement
What makes this organisation unique is:
- It’s not just about events — it’s about emotional and social well-being
- It’s built for people who don’t already have “a circle”
- It blends local Cork identity with a modern, soft approach to connection
I will try to express this in the website by:
– Using visuals and illustrations that evoke calm, joy and belonging
– Keeping the language human, warm, and easy to relate to
– Sharing real moments and stories of how people benefit from being part of it
